Biomedicum

Stockholm, Sweden | 2015

The modular façade, with a area of no less than 15,500 m2, consisted largely of a combined double façade; the primary – interior – part has the function of thermal insulation and structurally load-bearing and the secondary – exterior – part increases the acoustic attenuation and thanks to natural ventilation, supports the thermal insulation of the primary facade. However, ventilation is designed so that in the event of a fire there is no chimney effect and rapid spread of fire.

The exterior part of the façade is directly suspended via a system of anchors to the primary part at a distance of about 800 mm from the interior. This has created service passages that facilitate the overall management of the building, provides quick access to the sun shade for booth, maintenance and washing of the façade. For this project were developed custom profiles of various depths, with the deepest one being almost 400 mm.
